Minha resposta está restrita ao gênero "rock" e de um ponto de vista bem pessoal e subjetivo, tenho a impressão que, ao menos em relação à música internacional que acabou tendo influência duradoura pelo mundo, destacaria as contribuições, entre tantas, de quatro bandas: U2, The Cure, The Smiths ( para mim, Bono, Robert Smith e Morrissey são a "santíssima trindade" do rock do século XX kkk ) e R.E.M.

Melhores bandas da década de 80. Ok... Não necessariamente começaram na década de 80, mas ainda estavam ativas (veja os albuns em parênteses):

Dire Straits (veja o album Brothers in Arms)

Iron Maiden (veja os albuns The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave e Live After Death)

Pink Floyd (The wall, mas é de 1979 - mas talvez só chegou no Brasil na década de 80. Sorry guys, eu preciso colocar esse album aqui)
